Education in Vellore, South India

Target: £2,610 / €3,000 | Project 526
Renovating school buildings in the Diocese of Vellore
Vellore Diocese covers the state boundaries of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, which means it is a bilingual diocese (with both Tamil and Telugu languages spoken).
The Christians who live in this predominantly rural region suffer hardships and poverty, with more than 90 per cent of them belonging to oppressed Dalit communities [formerly known as ‘untouchables’].
The Diocese of Vellore is the youngest diocese in the Church of South India, having been created in 1976 out of the western half of Madras Diocese as part of a policy for establishing smaller dioceses or provide more efficient pastoral care and administration.
