Maternal Care for Women, Egypt

Target: £5,340/€7,120 | Project 500
Improving access to maternal care for women living in impoverished communities
Egypt’s maternal mortality rate is 62 per cent. The Improving maternal health is one of the Millenium Development Goals where the Diocese of Egypt is making a difference.
Through lack of awareness and with no outside help, births are often not registered. This means that familes have no right to healthcare, education, identity and voting rights. Family sizes are large with often as many as 10 children in a family.
The diocese is working with women from low income communities in Alexandria and Cairo that have little or no access to services including healthcare by enabling women to have access to medical care.
