Community Bread Making, Brazil

Target: £1,400 / €1,612 | Project 473
Providing food and creating employment for the community of Maria Ribeira
Children from the small remote community of Maria Ribeira, deep in the heart of the Amazon, have to take a two-hour boat journey to the nearest town – Gurupá – to attend school.
The school in Gurupá provides lunches, but they are expensive. After paying school fees lunch is an added cost so those who cannot afford it go without.
With the help of USPG, the people in Maria Ribeira will set up a community bakery that will make free lunches for school children. The bakery will also provide members of the community with a job and a small income.
