Making Music, Brazil

Target: £520 / €597 | Project 474
Inspiring young people through music, keeping indigenous culture alive
In the sprawling urban communities of Nova Marambaia and Terra Firme, in the Diocese of the Amazon, young people can easily be drawn into a world of violence and drug abuse.
For some it is because they want to escape problems they may be having in other parts of their lives, while for others it can be a result of peer pressure or to fit in.
Music is important to young people in these communities – there is a big interest in regional music that is played using traditional instruments, but sometimes there is a reluctance to take that music into the church.
