Stewardship of the Environment, Belize

Target: £5,340/€6,140 | Project 497
Teaching children about green issues and their responsibility to protect the environment
When we think of Belize, we think of its beautiful beaches and Barrier Reef, its natural climate and wildlife – not its environmental problems – but these do exist and they are serious.
Deforestation is rife, with mangrove forests being lost to land dredging and
reclamation projects. Marine species are in decline due to over-fishing and water is being polluted as a result of industrial effluents and sewage.
Certain agricultural practices such as ‘slash and burn’ pictured above are not sustainable, but are still be carried out.
