Barnabas Boys’ Hostel, North India

Target: £6,840/ €7,860 | Project 469
Looking after vulnerable children
Barnabas Hostel is located in the village of Sunapanga, in the Diocese of Phulbani, within the state of Orissa. During the rioting in 2008, the church-run Barnabas Boys’ Hostel was burned to the ground, leaving 40 orphans without home.
Furthermore, some of the children caught up in the rioting tragically lost one or both of their parents.
The boys’ hostel needed rebuilding, but the pressing concern was what to do with more than 40 homeless boys. The solution was to create a temporary home for them at the Phulbani Diocesan Centre. The diocesan centre is not ideal for the boys, but it does at least provide a stable home.
