Mission companion in Japan

Life is hard for children from Japan’s Filipino community, both economically and socially; with no legal status access to education is limited. Many have been born in Japan to Filipina mothers.

The Nagoya Youth Centre in Chubu Diocese is working amongst these children providing them with an education, including lessons in Filipino culture. Supported by USPG, Claire Gelder works at the centre teaching English to the Japanese community. Claire’s work is part of the wider outreach programme of the centre.
