A vigil of hymns and prayers at the Zimbabwe Embassy on Easter Sunday, 12.30 - 14.00
St Martin in the Fields, Southwark Cathedral and USPG (Anglicans in World Mission) are co-operating in A vigil of hymns and prayers at the Zimbabwe Embassy on Easter Sunday April 4th from 12.30 to 14.00.
The vigil is to draw attention to the locked churches and police violence preventing worship in Zimbabwe. There will be clergy from Zimbabwe present. At 13.00 Bishop Michael Doe (general secretary of USPG), who has recently returned, will speak about his experiences 'celebrating the Eucharist in a ditch'.
Bishop Michael said: 'On Sunday our fellow-Anglicans in Harare and many other parts of Zimbabwe will be barred from their churches and have to celebrate Easter on the street outside. So, in solidarity with them, we will gather on the pavement outside the Embassy here for our own worship and prayers for Zimbabwe'.
Support is welcome from everyone concerned about the plight of Zimbabweans. The Embassy is in The Strand WC2, almost opposite Charing Cross station.
